ON TIlE SAMPLE SIZE PROBLEM FOR X AND X SIIEWIIART CONTROL CIIARTS FOR A MEAN AND IMPLICATIONS FOR DESIGNING Q-CIIARTS

چکیده
In this work we study the question of how much data is required in order for classical X and X charts with estimated control limits to perform essentially like charts with the true control limits. The results indicate that using estimated control limits results in charts on which the events that individual points exceed control limits are dependent events, and that one result of this dependence is to increase the rate of false alarms after short runs, even though the ARL is increased. The important implications of this to designing Q-charts is discussed.

متن کاملPublic Health Implications of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Associated with Suya Spices in Nigeria
Background: The emergence and re-emergence of antibiotic-resistant foodborne bacteria call for concerted efforts, especially in developing countries. Spices have been employed traditionally to improve the aroma and flavour of foods; however, they could serve as reservoirs for the spread of potential pathogenic organisms. This study aims to investigate the public health implications of antibiot...
متن کاملSample to Sample Uctuations in Fragmentation and Agglomeration Processes
The uctuation dynamics in steady state fragmentation and aggregation processes is analyzed from a kinetic point of view. The uctuations n(x; t) in the number of particles of size between x and x + x, in a sample with average occupation number N(x), appear to behave like sums of uncorrelated events: < n(x; t) 2 >/ N(x). The implications of this fact for the applicability of a mean eld descriptio...

A language L is in NP if there is a Turing machine which can verify, in polynomial time, if a string x is in L, given that the Turing machine is provided with a good “witness string” w. Hence, NP can be viewed as the class of languages which have an interactive proof system in which there is a polynomial time verifier V (Turing machine) and an infinitely powerful prover P (an oracle) who, on in...
متن کاملDeterminants of Acorn Productivity Among Five Species of Oaks in Central Coastal California
We measured acorn production of five species of oaks (genus Quercus) over a ten year period (1980-1989) at Hastings Reservation in Monterey County, California. Crop production was highly variable and generally asynchronous between species. Variance in crop size decreased directly with increasing species diversity across sub-areas within the study site. Sources of variance in mean annual crop si...
